Bayou Lightning [Alligator, 1979]
A thoughtful guitarist, intermittently clever composer, and competent shouter, Brooks deserves to be recorded by someone as good as Bruce Iglauer. But that doesn't mean anyone who cares less about blues than Brooks and Iglauer do should buy the result. B-

Distinctions Not Cost-Effective [1980s]: Back in the Depression, it made sense for bluesmen to choose Chicago over Mississippi. The ones from New Orleans didn't want to leave.
