Consumer Guide Reviews:

Doris Troy [Apple, 1971]
Like most of the backup soul sisters making solo moves these days--I count at least six on my review shelf right now--she could be any of the others, but she's got some extra savvy. The production picks and chooses, melding straight blues and gospel with its soul tricks. Troy shares songwriting with names like Harrison, Starkey, and Stills--whose "Special Care" is the only song here that sounds as fresh as the ASCAP oldie "Exactly Like You." B-
