Tony Bird: Tony Bird [Columbia, 1976]
At his worst, this white Rhodesian is just a folkie--poetry, sententious, and he does go on. But even when he's bad you can hear black Africa in the rhythms and intense intonations of his singing, and when he's good you can hear it in the lyrics too. I wonder how much he steals but consider him an original nevertheless. B+
