Consumer Guide Reviews:

The Best and the Rest of Be-Bop Deluxe [Harvest, 1979]
The best-of sounds like Roxy Music gone heavy art-rock and makes a case for their cult reputation. Bill Nelson's guitar tone is pretty remarkable--thick yet ductile, by Phil Manzanera out of Randy California--and here he makes up for empty-headed improvisations with a career's worth of ID riffs. But he sings like someone who regards himself as an "axe victim" and thanks a seagull for enabling him to "survive." The rest-of didn't make it onto Drastic Plastic, and 'nuff said. B-
